Para World Championships Day 5: Ukraine’s Anna Hontar Breaks World Record

The fifth day of the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships from Manchester, England, saw several more records continue to fall.

There were not a slew of world records like the past few days, but there were plenty of national, meet and continental records set on Friday – and one world record.

Ukraine’s Anna Hontar broke a world record in the women’s 50 freestyle S6 class with a time of 32.55. She edged China’s Jiang Yuyan, who broke the Asian record in 32.90.

Great Britain’s Faye Rogers broke the European Para record to earn gold in the women’s 100 butterfly S10 class. She touched the wall in 1:05.48. Teammate Bethany Firth won gold in the women’s 200 IM SM 14 in 2:24.17.

Brazil’s Cecila Jeronimo de Araujo won the women’s 50 free S8 in an Americas record of 30.03.

Spain’s Antoni Ponce Bertran broke the meet record to win the men’s 100 breaststroke SB5 in 1:26.80. Spain’s Marta Fernandez Infante won the women’s 50 free S3 gold in 42.51. Daniel Ferrer Robles won the men’s 50 free S3 gold in 45.68.

Italy’s Antonio Fantin broke the meet record in the men’s 50 free S6 class with a time of 28.59 to earn the gold medal.

Canada’s Danielle Dorris broke the meet record to win gold in the women’s 50 butterfly S& (33.98).

Canadian compatriot Nicholas Bennett won the men’s 200 IM SM14 in 2:07.98.

Ukraine’s Andrii Trusov broke the championship meet record in the men’s 100 fly S7, getting to the wall in 28.92. Danylo Shufarov won gold in the men’s 100 free S11 (37.13).

In the women’s 100 free S12, Maria Carolina Gomes Santiago broke the meet record to win gold in 58.87.

Australia’s Lakeisha Patterson won the women’s 400 free S9 (4:46.30).

Italy’s Simone Berlaam won another gold, this time men’s 400 free S9, getting to the wall in 4:13.62. Stefano Raimondi also continued his strong meet, claiming gold in the men’s 100 butterfly S10 (54.71).

Israel’s Ami Omer Dadaon claimed another gold, this time in the men’s 50 free S4 (36.26).

Germany’s Verena Schott won the gold medal in the women’s 100 breaststroke SB5 class, reaching the wall in 1:43.64. Tanja Scholz won the women’s 50 free S4 gold in 38.90.

Greece’s Dimosthenis Michalentzakis took the gold medal in the men’s 50 free S8, clocking a 27.01.

Azerbaijan’s Raman Salei won the men’s 100 free S12 in 53.32.

Liesette Bruinsma of the Netherlands won the gold medal in the women’s 100 freeS1 in 1:06.45.

Australia’s Katja Dedekind won the gold medal in the women’s 50 free S13 class to close out the women’s individual events for the day. She got to the wall in 27.17.

U.S. swimmer Olivia Chambers won the bronze (27.69).

Oleksii Virchenko of Ukraine won the men’s 50 free S13 to close the men’s individual events. He claimed the gold medal in 23.47.

Canada’s Nicolas Turbide took the bronze in an Americas record 23.88 behind Islam Aslanov of Uzbekistan (23.78).
