USA’s Michael Andrew cranked out a near-World Junior record time with a meet record in the men’s 50-meter back at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.

Andrew hit the wall in 25.13 for the victory, breaking his own mark of 25.14 set yesterday.

That time just missed Evgeny Rylov’s World Junior record of 25.09 from the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China from last summer.

It was a strong response for Andrew following a disappointing early start to the meet for Andrew that featured a five-swim night on the second evening of swimming.

Canada’s Javier Acevedo raced his way to silver in 25.46, while Egypt’s Mohamed Samy and Venezuela’s Robinson Molina shared bronze with matching 25.54s.

Egypt’s Youssef Abdalla (25.63), Spain’s Hugo Gonzalez (25.75), Greece’s Nikolaos Sofianidis (25.79) and Russia’s Roman Larin (26.13) finished fifth through eighth.
