Madison Kennedy Sprints To 50 Free Win At USA Nationals Prelims
Madison Kennedy leads prelims as the only swimmer to crack 25 seconds in this morning’s 50-meter free race at USA Nationals. Kennedy’s 24.93 was a slight add from her entry time, but is more than enough to maintain her number-one seed. Amanda Kendall clocked a 25.23 to take second, a mere 0.02 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Amanda Weir (23.25). The 100-meter fly National Champion Kelsi Worrell zoomed to a 25.28 to claim fourth, while Allyx Purcell‘s 25.38 earned her the fifth spot. Amy Bliquist (25.41) edged Faith Johnson (25.42) for sixth. Olivia Smoliga rounds out the top eight with a 25.49.
Lili Ibañez Lopez leads the consolation final with a 25.57, just ahead of Madeline Locus‘s 25.60. Locus dropped eight spots from her original seed. Chase Kinney (25.67), Melissa Gates (25.68), Anika Apostalon (25.70), Katie Meili (25.73), and Jamie Stone (25.76) also qualified for the B Final. Riki Bonnema, Felicia Lee, and Shuyu Sun all tied for 16th in 25.78, which means they will all face off in a swim off at the end of the session.
