Lucy McJannett Anchors Australia to World Junior Mark in 400 Free Relay at 2015 FINA World Junior Championships
Lucy Elizabeth McJannett delivered a scorching anchor as Australia clipped Russia for the women’s 400-meter free relay at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships.
Shayna Jack, Minna Atherton, Gemma Cooney and McJannett won the finale in a time of 3:39.87.
Russia’s Arina Openysheva, Mariia Kameneva, Daria Mullakaeva and Daria S. Ustinova placed second in 3:39.91.
Both swims blasted the World Junior record of 3:40.14 set by USA’s Stanzi Moseley, Amy Bilquist, Katie Drabot and Katrina Konopka at the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
The meet record of 3:41.40 set by Russia in 2013 also took a tumble.
Canada’s Penny Oleksiak, Rebecca Smith, Mary-Sophie Harvey and Taylor Ruck earned bronze in 3:40.26, also under the meet record.
Japan (3:41.67), USA (3:43.07), China (3:45.81), Brazil (3:46.93) and Germany (3:47.73) also competed in the finale.
