Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh continues to diversify himself in the sport after more than a decade at the elite international level, winning a bronze medal in the 50 butterfly at the FINA world championships.
Despite the medal around his neck in the ultra-sprint event, Cseh does not consider himself a sprinter.
“It was just a warm-up for me,” Cseh said. “I am thinking about always racing the 50. It was very fun, and I enjoyed it.”

Cseh has had a lot of success in the 200 butterfly, winning silver in that race at the 2008 Olympics behind Michael Phelps. It’s also been a vital part of his individual medley, from his bronze in the 400 IM at the 2004 Olympics to last year’s gold in the 200 IM at the European championships.
Now, Cseh has returned to his age-group coach, and he said the focus on training has been on improving technique on butterfly, which has caused to believe that “I am a little more of a butterflyer than an IMer. It’s really interesting.”
Next up on Cseh’s world championship schedule is the 200 butterfly, and he is confident that he will do well because “I am fast. I just need to get not so fast in the first 50, and I will be OK.”
Hajrá
Go Laszlo!
