Ledecky had skipped the 200 free at the 2013 worlds, where her three distance free wins put her alongside Tim Shaw (1975: 200, 400, 1500 free), Ian Thorpe (2001: 200, 400, 800 free), Grant Hackett (2005: 400, 800, 1500) and Sun Yang (2013: 400, 800, 1500) as swimmers to win three freestyle gold medals in one world championships.

Katie’s accomplishment is truly remarkable but perhaps even more astounding is Shane Gould in the 70’s having the world records for the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 free and the 200IM simultaneously!
