Mission Viejo Nadadores’ Grant Shoults is featured in Sports Illustrated‘s Faces in the Crowd in June’s issue of the magazine.

Faces in the Crowd is a segment that highlights a range of athletic accomplishments.

The brief description of Shoults’ recognition reads,

“Grant, a senior at Santa Margarita Catholic high, broke two national high school records at the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championships: the 200 yard freestyle (1:33.26) and the 500 freestyle (4:12.87). At junior worlds in Singapore last August he won the 400-meter free (3:48.91) and took second in the 200 free (1:48.42). Grant will swim at Stanford.”

His 200 freestyle national high school record was just faster than the 1:33.70 Maxime Rooney had posted earlier in the day. Before this May, Tom Shields held the record with a 1:33.83 from 2009. Shoults’ 500 yard freestyle took down Jack Conger‘s 2013 mark of 4:13.87.

The rising Stanford freshman is slated to compete at next week’s Olympic Trials. He is seeded seventh in the 400 freestyle, 13th in the 200, 22nd in the 200 butterfly, 50th in the 200 IM, 54th in the 1500 freestyle, and 87th in the 100 butterfly.
