BEIJING – The FINA World Cup kicks off its third cluster with a stop in Beijing, and the heat sheets are now available. As is usual, FINA World Cup points and money-leader Katinka Hosszu has a loaded schedule with double-digit swims on the slate. Additionally, the U.S. contingent has some new additions compared to the rest of the circuit.
Hosszu already has won more than $200,000 on the tour with cluster wins in both of the first two stanzas of the circuit. She’s going to be in the running to claim another big share of the $300,000 up for grabs on the final three-meet cluster. She’s already put up enough points to win the overall $100,000 grand prize.
As far as the U.S contingent, the tour welcomes Elizabeth Beisel to he fold as well as 15-year-old professional swimmer Michael Andrew. Breeja Larson, Eugene Godsoe, Tom Shields, Caitlin Leverenz and Giles Smith also are part of the U.S. squad.
Men’s points leader Chad le Clos has five events listed on his docket as his primary competition for the overall and cluster points will be Shields, as the two battled down to the wire in the second cluster with le Clos winning the points battle there.
