GOLD COAST, Australia, August 22. THE women’s and men’s 100 freestyles will be the highlight of tonight’s finals at the Pan Pacific championships at the Gold Coast Aquatic Center, and we present the heats sheets below for the thrilling session.
In addition to the 100 free, medals will be awarded to the top three in the women’s and men’s 100 breaststroke, 400 individual medley and 4×200 freestyle relay. Elizabeth Beisel (400 IM) and Nathan Adrian (100 free) will be looking to defend their titles from the 2010 Pan Pac meet.
It should be noted that the men’s and women’s 400 individual medley B final will bend the rules a bit when it comes to allowing more than the maximum number of athletes per country. Officials tell Swimming World that the main purpose is to fill all the lanes in the B final, and in order to do that, some countries might get to have all or almost all of their athletes get a second swim. In the women’s 400 IM, for example, four Americans are in the B final as 17 swimmers competed in the event. The swimmer left out was American Hali Flickinger.
The session will begin at 7 p.m. with the B finals of the 400 IMs, a tactic to fill the time before the 7:30 p.m. start of the live broadcast.
