NEW COMMIT: Scottsdale, Arizona’s Madison Leblanc has given her verbal commitment to Columbia University. She swims for Scottsdale Aquatic Club and is a senior at Chaparral High School. She joins Yanran Le in the Lions’ Class of 2022.
Leblanc is strongest at an interesting combination of events, with her highest USA Swimming power points coming in the 1650 and the 200 breaststroke. Leblanc has trended away from the 1650 lately as her best time there is over two years old. Regardless, she’ll give coaches Diana Caskey and Demerae Christianson a number of options when she gets to New York next fall. Her best times include:
- 1650 Free 17:04.31
- 200 Breast 2:18.57
- 100 Breast 1:06.44
- 400 IM 4:26.68
- 500 Free 4:56.46
- 1000 Free 10:17.88
Last fall Chaparral High School won the Arizona Division 2 High school state championships. At that meet, Leblanc swam the breaststroke leg of the team’s winning 200 medley relay. In the very next event she was runner up in the 200 freestyle. She also cracked five minutes to earn 500 freestyle bronze.
Her best mile time would have been good for 17th at the 2017 Ivy League Championships. Leblanc also would have been a 200 breaststroke B finalist and a 400 IM and a 500 free C finalist.
Leblanc said,
“I chose Columbia because I believe it is a great fit for me both academically and athletically. I am so honored and excited to join the ladies in the fall of 2018!”
