Chad Le Clos, Michael Andrew Shine in Stellenbosch Grand Prix
STELLENBOSCH – Chad le Clos and Michael Andrew had another strong day of swimming at the South African Grand Prix in Stellenbosch.
Le Clos picked up two more wins today after topping the 100 free yesterday.
Le Clos put up a sizzling 52.31 in the men’s 100-meter fly to vault to second in the world rankings behind only Jack Conger unreal 51.64 from the Austin Pro Swim Series.
Le Clos then clocked a 2:01.80 in the men’s 200-meter backstroke to call it a day.
It was a truly busy day for 15-year-old pro Andrew.
He kicked things off with a 1:02.75 in the men’s 100-meter breast for the win, finishing a full second off his personal best 1:01.67 from the Austin stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.
He then clocked a 58.22 in the men’s 100-meter fly finals after qualifying in 55.73 during prelims.
Andrew followed that up with a 26.31 to win the men’s 50-meter back, before clocking a 23.06 to win the men’s 50-meter free.
He’s been a lot faster in the 100 fly (53.46), but his 50 back (26.27) and 50 free (22.82) were both pretty close to his personal bests. Not bad considering this is less of a racing trip and more of a reconnection to his parents’ South African roots.
