Bob Bowman Speaks With Swimming World, Arizona Republic
As the two media outlets that broke the story this morning, Swimming World and the Arizona Republic had the chance to spend some exclusive time with new Arizona State head coach Bob Bowman away from the rest of the press conference.
While the press conference focused primarily on how the decision was made and the future of the program, along with Michael Phelps coming to Tempe as part of the package, Swimming World and the Arizona Republic had the chance to dive a bit beeper with Bowman.
During this seven-minute conversation, Bowman talks about the following:
– Timeline on making the decision
– Athletic Director Ray Anderson’s vision for ASU Swimming
– Biggest selling point – support of administration
– Former Arizona head coach Frank Busch having a hand in Bowman taking job at ASU.
– Michael Phelps was on board right away. “He knew it was a great thing for both of us. It shakes things up a bit, which I think is always good. He is also a sun animal, and he always swims faster when he is tan.”
– Transition period between Baltimore and Tempe.
– NBAC Coaching Staff Shakeup
– Arizona State men’s swimming is fully funded and fully staffed. “I wouldn’t be standing here if it wasn’t.”
– Plans to upgrade the Mona Plummer Aquatics Complex in the next few years.
Is that the shocker?
