NEW COMMIT: The University of Alabama has received a verbal commitment from Spencer Walker for the 2018-2019 season.

Walker was the 2017 Illinois High School boys state champion in the 100 backstroke. He’s a rising senior at Lyons Township High School where he’ll look to defend his title this year. He trains year round with the Academy Bullets Swim Team.

Among his best times are:

  • 50 Back 22.21
  • 100 Back 48.13
  • 200 Back 1:45.18
  • 200 Free 1:39.93

The backstroke events appear to be where Walker’s future in college swimming lies. At the 2017 SEC Championship he would have been a 100 backstroke C finalist. Alabama put two juniors in that A final, though both Luke Kaliszak and Christopher Reid will have graduated by Walker’s arrival in Tuscaloosa.

Walker told Swimming World,

“I chose the University of Alabama because of the world class academics & amazing coaching staff. The minute I was on campus I felt right at home & knew that Bama was the place I’d call home. Roll Tide!”
