Arizona State Picks Up Verbal Commit From Breaststroker Abigail Mawae
Abigail Mawae has given the Arizona State women a verbal commitment for the Class of 2022. She joins Bob Bowman‘s quickly forming men’s class which added it’s fifth commitment tonight.
Mawae has only been swimming since eighth grade. She is currently a junior at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL. Mawae trains with Lake Forest Swim Club where she is primarily a breaststroker.
Some of her best times are (SCY/LCM):
- 100 Breast 1:07.93/ 2:26.25
- 200 Breast 2:26.25/ 2:51.37
- 200 Free 1:56.62/ 2:16.42
Mawae was living in Louisiana through at least the fall when she represented Dunham High School at the 2016 Louisiana Division 4 State Championships. She was the school’s breaststroker (32.06) on the team’s second place 200 medley relay. Mawae also finished as runner up in the 200 freestyle. The school won the 200 freestyle relay which she anchored in 24.93, before picking up the individual title in the 100 breaststroke with a lifetime best time of 1:07.93.
Freshman Silja Kansakoski led the Sun Devils’ breaststroking efforts this year, crushing the school record in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:06.41 at the Pac 12 Championship. She’ll overlap with Mawae for two years.
