Are You A Top 20 Swimmer In Your Zone?
Each week, USA Swimming releases their top 20 zone times. Swimming World will provide a unique analysis of the zones each week. Here, you’ll find the zones’ strengths, top athletes, and top times.
USA Swimming Eastern Zone
Girls: Megan Lynch of the Greenwich YWCA Dolphins and Joy Jiang of Westchester Aquatic Club continue to set incredible new standards for the Eastern Zone’s 11-year old girls. Jiang has improved the top marks in the 400-meter free, 50 and 100-meter back, 100-meter fly, and 400-meter IM. Lynch posted new top times in the 200-meter free, 50, 100, and 200-meter breast, and the 200-meter IM.
For the 12-year old girls, Ali Tyler (Cheshire Y/Sea Dog Swim Club) lowered the time in the 50-meter free to a 27.61, while also setting a new mark in the 50-meter fly. Vanessa Chong of Laguardia Aquatic Club (100-meter fly), Ella Higgins of the Virginia Gators (50-meter breast), and Gracie Shebie of NOVA (200-meter IM) also swam zone bests.
The Virginia Gators’ Olivia Bray hit top times in the 100-meter back and fly for the 13-year old girls. Kate Douglass of Westchester also swam a top time in the 50-meter free in the age group. Bray’s teammate Caroline Kulp (1500-meter free) and Alexa Cuomo of the Mason Makos (100-meter fly) notched zone-bests for the 14-year old girls.
Amongst senior-level swimmers, Cassidy Bayer of Nation’s Capital popped off a zone-best 200-meter IM for the 15-year old girls, while her teammate Anna Belousova swam a top time in the same event for the 18-year old girls.
Boys: Leo Tutovani of the Virginia Gators took over the top spot in the 11-year old boys’ 100-meter free. Tutovani also swam a 1:09.94 to achieve the top 100-meter back slot. Also in the age group, Danny Kim from Long Island Swim Club swam the top 200-meter fly.
Dare Rose swam a trio of zone bests for the 12-year old boys. The Scarlet Aquatics swimmer topped the list in 100-meter free, 400-meter free, and the 200-meter IM. SOLO Aquatics member Aaron Zhu pumped out top times in the 100 and 200-meter breast. Meanwhile, Rivertown Aquatics’ Matthew Fenlon (200-meter back), Somerset Hills YMCA’s Matthew Fallon (50-meter breast), and NOVA’s Atesh Camurdan (50-meter free) also swam top times.
Anthony Minickiello of Greenwood Swimming was the lone change atop the 13-year old boys’ list in the 800-meter free. There were a slew of changes on the 14-year old boys leaderboard. Ivan Puskovitch swam top times in the 800 and 1500-meter free as well as the fastest 400-meter IM. Regency Park’s Luke Durocher pumped out top backstroke times in the 100 and 200-meter races. Matt Magness of Golden Ram Aquatics (400-meter free), Mason Gonzalez of Allegheny North (100-meter free), River Wright of Bluefish Swim Club (200-meter fly), and Matthew Whelan of NOVA (50-meter free) also topped the age group.
In the 15-year old boys age group, Andrew Abruzzo of Germantown Academy Aquatic Club added two top times in the 400 and 800-meter free. Eric Tong’s (X-Cel Swimming) 1:05.27 100-meter breast earned him the top spot for the 16-year old boys in the event. Nation’s Capital’s stud swimmer Andrew Seliskar, 18, added another top time in the 200-meter free at 1:50.29.
USA Swimming Central Zone
Girls: Scarlet Martin of Iowa Flyers Swim Club led the way for the 11-year old girls with three new zone bests in the 50, 100, and 200-meter fly. Club Wolverine’s Annabelle Haberkorn (200-meter free) and Drue Thielking (50-meter breast) produced new zone bests for the age group along with Martin’s teammate Heidi Stalkfleet (800-meter free).
NW Dupage YMCA/B.R. Ryall Swim Team’s Kate Morris lowered the top times in the 50 and 100-meter free for the 12-year old girls. Plymouth-Canton Cruisers member Sophia Tuinman clocked top times in the 100 and 200-meter back, while Ally Silvestri of Ozaukee Aquatics also achieved two top times in the 100 and 200-meter breast. Isabella Pytel of the Academy Bullets Swim Club (200-meter IM), Berit Quass of Central Iowa Aquatics (50-meter fly), and Julia Heimstead of Waves Bloomington (200-meter fly) also topped the list.
In the 13-year old girls age group, Maxine Parker (Patriot Aquatic Club) cranked out a top 50-meter free in 27.17. Annika Wagner from Leaning Tower YMCA posted two zone bests in both IMs. Parker and Wagner were joined at the top by Abby Jahns of Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (1500-meter free) and Elizabeth Broshears of the Newburgh Sea Creatures (200-meter fly).
There were a number of changes atop the 14-year old girls’ list as well. Carmel Swim Club’s Kelly Pash posted two zone bests in the 100-meter fly and 200-meter IM. Sydney Vanovermeiren of Academy Bullets also produced two top times in the 200-meter breast and 400-meter IM. Anya Goeders of Mako Swim Team (100-meter free), Georgia Mosher of Club Wolverine (1500-meter free), Emily Weiss of Cardinal Community Swim Club (100-meter breast), and Carla Gildersleeve of Franklin Regional Swim Team also popped off top times. There were no changes at the top for the 15-and-over swimmers.
Boys: Champaign County YMCA’s Andrew Lin cranked out four top times for the 11-year old boys in the 50-meter fly and 50, 100, 200-meter back. In the 12-year old boys age group, Andrew Dai of Wheaton Swim Club churned out zone bests in the 200-meter fly and 100-meter breast. Southwest Aquatic Team’s Emilio Perez lowered the 100-meter free mark to 57.64. Parker Nolan of Chicago Wolfpack (50-meter free), Aaron Dies of PRO Swimming (50-meter back), and Dai’s teammate Justin Li (200-meter back) all added top times to the list.
Carson Foster, 13, of the Cincinnati Marlins gutted out a new zone best in the 400-meter IM in an impressive 4:40.01. Carmel’s Wyatt Davis (100 and 200-meter back) and Munster’s Kyle Adams (100 and 200-meter breast) both added two top times. Carson’s older brother, Jake Foster notched two top times in the 14-year old boys’ 400-meter free and IM at Columbus Sectionals.
Foster’s teammate Justin Grender posted a new top time in the 15-year old boys’ 200-meter back. His 16-year old teammate Christian Imbus swam the fastest 1500-meter free. Also for the 16-year old boys, Michael Andrew (Indie Swimming) set two new marks in the 100-meter free and 200-meter fly, while Spencer Carl (West Ottawa Swim Club) topped the 200-meter fly. 17-year old boys Cameron Craig of Southern Michigan (200-meter free and 100-meter back), Mason Miller of Ohio State Swim Club (100-meter fly) and Nathan Jones of the Cincinnati Marlins (400-meter IM) rounded out the rest of the new top times in the Central Zone.
USA Swimming Southern Zone
Girls: Margaret Mabry, 11, of Lakeside Aquatic Club busted out four zone bests in the 400-meter free and the 50, 100, and 200-meter back. Elite Swim Program’s Lindsey Hosch topped the list in the 100 and 200-meter breast, while City of Richardson Swim Team’s Sophia Todd etched her name at the top of the 100 and 200-meter fly races.
For the 12-year old girls, Karen Yin of Nitro Swimming hit top times in the 100 and 200-meter back. The Woodlands Swim Team teammates Lillie Nordmann (400-meter free and 200-meter fly) and Malia Rausch (200-meter IM) swam top times for the age group. New Wave’s Amanda Ray (1500-meter free) and First Colony’s Jacey Hinton also topped the 12-year old girls age group.
There were no changes atop the 13 and 14-year old girls’ lists. Madison Homovich of the North Carolina Aquatic Club clocked zone bests in the 400-meter free and 200-meter back for the 15-year old girls. Julia Poole of Triangle Aquatics notched a top time in the 16-year old girls’ 100-meter breast with her 1:10.59.
Boys: In the 11-year old boys age group, Josh Zuchowski (East Coast Aquatic Club) nabbed the top spot in the 100-meter back, while Connor Scott (The Woodlands) swam zone bests in the 50 and 100-meter breast. David Oderinde of the Premier Aquatics Club of Klein topped the 12-year old boys in the 50 and 100-meter free. Matthew Tannenberger (Swim Streamline at Northampton) also claimed two top times in the age group in the 200 and 400-meter free. Jake Thakur chipped in a zone best in the 200-meter fly with his 2:22.26.
Kevin Repice of the North Texas Nadadores crushed four new top times for the 13-year old boys in the 100, 200 and 400-meter free as well as the 200-meter IM. Jack Grieshop (Nitro) nailed three new zone bests in the 100 and 200-meter back and the 200-meter fly. Rafael Rodriguez (South Florida Aquatic Club) busted out a zone best in the 400-meter IM in 4:51.73.
Premier Aquatics Club’s Jacob Powell posted a 24.60 to lead the 14-year old boys. Jace Brown of Rockwall Aquatic Center of Excellence also had a top 100-meter fly time for the age group. In the 16-year old boys age group, Zachary Poti from the Blue Dolfins swam a top time in the 200-meter fly.
USA Swimming Western Zone
Girls: There were only a few new top times in the Western Zone, and all of which stemmed from the 11 and 12-year old girls. Amongst the 11-year olds, Yosemite Marlins swimmer Claire Tuggle led the way with top times in the 100 and 400-meter free. Pikes Peak Athletics swimmer Mia Tandingan set the new mark in the 50-meter free, while Iz Meraz’s 33.23 50-meter back is the now the fastest time in the Western Zone. Hannah Joseph sprinted her way to the top of the 12-year old girls’ 50-meter free with a 27.89.
Boys: Flatiron Athletic Club teammates Camilo Vargas (200-meter breast) and Jackson McDonald (400-meter IM) put up top times for the 11-year old boys. Redding Swim Team pheonom Winn Aung lowered three more marks amongst 12-year old boys in the 100-meter free and the 50 and 100-meter fly.
Ethan Dang of King Aquatic Club lowered his 100 and 200-meter breast times to lead the 13-year old boys. Harrison Lierz of the Front Range Barracudas posted a top time in the 200-meter back. The lone change atop the 14-year old boys age group came from Multnomah Athletic Club’s Van Mathias in the 100-meter fly.
Jeffco Hurricanes swimmer Michael Zarian topped the 16-year old boys’ list in the 400-meter IM with a 4:30.04. 17-year olds Ryan Hoffer of Scottsdale Aquatic Club (50-meter free) and Zarian’s teammate Keegan Foulke (400-meter IM) added their names to the top of the list. The final change in the west came from Phoenix Swim Club’s Matthew Anderson, whose 1:03.61 100-meter breast now leads the 18-year old boys.
