Are You A Top 20 Swimmer In Your Zone?
Each week, USA Swimming releases their top 20 zone times. Swimming World will provide a unique analysis of the zones each week. Here, you’ll find the zones’ strengths, top athletes, and top times.
USA Swimming Eastern Zone
Girls: Megan Lynch and Joy Jiang, who already rule the 11-year old girls age group, set new marks for the Eastern Zone this past weekend. Jiang’s 2:14.06 200-meter free topped the zone, while Lynch had four new zone bests in the 100 and 200-meter breast and both IMs.
Ali Tyler (50-meter free) and Phoebe Bacon (100-meter back and 100-meter fly) swam zone bests for the 12-year old girls. Chase Travis ripped off four top times in the age group in the 400 and 800-meter free as well as the 200-meter back and 400-meter IM.
Kate Douglass was the lone 13-year old girl to clock a new top time with her 5:03.12 400-meter IM. In the 14-year old girls age group, Yuxi Chen busted out zone bests in the 50 and 100-meter free. Alex Summer of Suburban Seahawks Club notched a top time in the 200-meter IM for the age group as well.
Molly Kowal and Emma Seiberlich were the only other changes in the Eastern Zone with their top times in the 16-year old girls’ 200-meter breast and 200-meter fly, respectively.
Boys: For the 11-year old boys, North Baltimore’s Alex Lakatta swam three zone bests in the 800-meter free, 100-meter back, and 200-meter back. Sean Santos also added a top time in the 200-meter IM with a 2:32.66.
Dare Rose, 12, busted out four top times in the 200-meter free and the 50, 100, and 200-meter fly to bring his zone best total to seven events. Aaron Zhu (400-meter IM), Brett Feyerick (100-meter back), and Josh Matheny (200-meter breast) topped the list for the age group.
In the 13-year old boys age group, Kimani Gregory clocked a 54.29 in the 100-meter free and 59.11 in the 100-meter fly to set new marks in the Eastern Zone. Destin Lasco also swam two top times in the 200 and 400-meter IM. Justin Konik (1500-meter free) and John Clado (200-meter IM) topped the 14-year old boys’ list. Johannes Calloni, 14, was the only other change at the top with his 8:17.33 800-meter free.
USA Swimming Central Zone
Girls: There weren’t many changes at the apex of the Central Zone. Eliot Kennedy (1500-meter free) and Sophia Tuinman (100-meter back) swam top times for the 12-year old girls. Allie Wooden (50-meter free) and Hannah Moore (800-meter free) set new marks for the 18-year old girls.
Boys: Adam McDonald hit the top time for the 11-year old boys in the 200-meter breast with a 2:50.63, while Andrew Rodgers swam a strong 2:30.00 in the 200-meter fly to add his swim to the top of the age group.
Jonah Karschnik, 12, from the M.E. Lyons/Anderson Barracudas now has three top times in the Central Zone with his 100-meter free, 50-meter fly, and 100-meter fly. Also in the same age group, Colby Lomagilo (1500-meter free) and Andrew Dai (200-meter fly) swam zone-best times.
Michael Andrew lowered his marks in the 16-year old boys 50 and 100-meter free to 23.20 and 50.67, continuing his streak of pumping out standout times. In the 18-year old age group, Club Wolverine’s PJ Ransford swam zone bests in the 400, 800, and 1500-meter free and 400-meter IM.
USA Swimming Southern Zone
Girls: There was a trio of changes at the top of the 11-year old girls age group. Margaret Mabry (800-meter free), Kasen Rosenthal (50-meter fly), and Sophia Todd (100-meter fly) all hit new marks for the age group.
In the 13-year old girls age group, Gabi Albiero busted out top times in the 50 and 100-meter free. Payton Marvin (800-meter free) and Savannah Mitchell (1500-meter free) set new marks in the distance races, while Lindsay Looney topped the age group with a 2:17.71 200-meter fly.
Joy Field’s 16.37.04 1500-meter free performance notched the top spot for the 16-year old girls. Meanwhile, Karling Hemstreet and Nancy Hu hit zone bests for the 17-year old girls in the 1500-meter free and 200-meter fly, respectively. Arizona commit Kennedy Lohman also topped the age group with her 1:10.70 100-meter breast. Lexie Lupton (50-meter free) and Summer Finke (1500-meter free) swam new top times for the 18-year old girls.
Boys: In the 11-year old boys age group, Justice Hunt and Matthew Kroll swam their way to the top of the list in the 1500-meter free and 50-meter breast, respectively. 13-year old JJ Hardy posted a 25.63 in the 50-meter free to top his age group.
There were a number of changes in the 14-year old boys age group, starting with Zachary Hils who sprinted his way to the top of the 50-meter free. He then added zone bests in the 200-meter IM and 400-meter IM. Jason Park (200-meter back), Alexander Webster (800-meter free), Aidan Johnston (100-meter free), and Mikey Calvillo (200-meter fly) also set new top times.
The 15-year old boys followed suit with seven new zone bests from Will Davis (50-meter free), Robert Finke (800-meter free), Tan Dunn (100-meter back), Jacob Rauch (100-meter breast), Andrew Winton (200-meter breast), Jack LeVant (100 and 200-meter fly).
Grant Reed and Ariel Spektor topped the 16-year old boys’ list in the 200-meter free and 100-meter fly, respectively. Grant Sanders, 17, of Clearwater Aquatic Team added two top times in the 200-meter and 400-meter IM.
Caeleb Dressel busted out four top times in the 18-year old boys’ 50, 100, and 200-meter free along with his zone-best 100-meter fly. Sam Stewart added three zone bests in the age group in the 200-meter back, 200 and 400-meter IM.
USA Swimming Western Zone
Girls: Paola Castillo swam a spectacular 18:53.48 to top the 11-year old girls’ list in the 1500-meter free. Ana Jin-Schiff also swam zone bests in the age group in the 50 and 100-meter breast.
Amy Tang tore through four top times in the 50, 100, and 200-meter back along with her zone-best 100-meter fly for the 12-year old girls. Belle Battistoni hit the trifecta with zone bests in all three breaststroke races, and then added a top 200-meter IM time of 2:26.09. Jessica Chu also swam a top time in the age group with her 2:25.71 200-meter fly.
Ashleen O’Brien, 14, clocked a top time in the 100-meter fly with a 1:02.18. Eva Merrell followed suit with a top time in the event for the 15-year old girls. SOCAL Aquatics Association’s Ella Eastin swam four zone bests for the 18-year old girls age group in the 200-meter breast, 200-meter fly, and both IMs.
Boys: Winn Aung continues to set new marks for the 12-year old boys in the Western Zone. This past weekend, he notched zone bests in the 50, 100, 200, and 400-meter free. Rick Courrieu swam top times in the 200, 400, and 800-meter free for the 13-year old boys, while Ethan Dang zoomed to zone bests in the 100 and 200-meter breast in the same age group.
Owen Kao swam a 3:58.63 400-meter free to top the list for the 15-year old boys. Michael Brinegar etched his name at the top of the age group in the 800 and 1500-meter free. Sean Lee swam zone bests in the 200-meter fly and 200-meter IM for the 16-year old boys.
In the 18-year old boys age group, Justin Lynch clocked top times in the 100 and 200-meter fly. Thomas Smith also doubled up on zone bests in the 100 and 200-meter back, while Billy Monjay swam a 2:19.33 in the 200-meter breast to set a new mark for the zone.
