Six meet records fell in prelims of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championship meet this morning.

In the opening 200 medley relay the Crean Lutheran team of Eva MerrellJimena MartinezMandy Brenner, and Elise Garcia dominated the competition and took over a second off the meet record their team set in 2015. The quartet stopped the clock in 1:42.22.

Garcia, Brenner, Journey Werner, and Merrell combined for a 1:34.89 in the 200 freestyle relay, knocking nearly a half second off the old 1:35.26.

Garcia also took down an individual meet record, posting a 22.71 in the 50 freestyle. That mark was .09 quicker than the 22.80 swum by Gretchen Jacques in 2009.

Garcia then earned the second seed in the 100 freestyle behind a meet record from Mira Costa’s Alexandra Crisera. Crisera stopped the clock in 49.02. Kenisha Liu swam a 49.26 to earn the mark last year. Crisera also went a meet record 53.65 in the 100 backstroke.

Merrell also earned a meet record with a 52.57 in the 100 butterfly, shaving .02 from Alexis Margett‘s 52.59 swum last year. Margett is the second seed entering finals.

Tenny Chong swam within a half second of Anthony Ervin‘s 1999 meet record (44.11) in the 100 freestyle. Chong posted a 44.59.

Liberty Gilbert (1:49.18) of Chaparral and Taylor Ault (1:49.63) of Sonora both cracked 1:50 in the 200 free. Two men- Andrew Koustik of Calvary Christian (1:39.56) and Foothill’s Hunter Ingram (1:39.80)- were under 1:40 in that event.

The top three men, Ethan Trieu (49.70), Ben Blevins-Boor (49.73) and Jacob Mullin (49.84) all cleared 50 seconds in the 100 backstroke prelims.

Those swimmers will return to the pool tomorrow morning for finals.
