Though he was happy with winning his first world championship title, Great Britain’s Adam Peaty did not like the fact that he did not break his world record in the 100 breaststroke at the FINA world championships.
“It wasn’t the time I expected to do, and it wasn’t the time I’m happy to do, but world championship finals (and) Olympic finals are going to be for the win, and I did bring that home tonight,” Peaty said.

Peaty won with a 58.52, just seven hundredths of a second ahead of Cameron Van Der Burgh. Peaty was six tenths slower than his world record of 57.92 that he set in April at the British nationals.
Peaty said he has come a long way since beginning world with coach Melanie Marshall six years ago. Not only has his physical performance improved greatly, but his approach to the sport has changed radically.
“I was close to quitting back then because I didn’t really like (the sport),” he said. “If you asked me six years ago (if I could win a world championship title), I would have gone, ‘No way.’”
