2015 NCAA Division II Championships: Drury, Queens Duking It Out For Team Titles
The second evening of action at the NCAA Division II Championships provided some stunning swims, along with some close team title contests between Drury and Queens.
On top of Matt Josa vaulting to 10th all time in the 100 fly for Queens, his squad managed to stand second behind defending champions Drury just 206-202.5. Wayne State (166), Grand Valley (161) and Lindenwood (153) were third, fourth and fifth after day two in the men’s race.
Queens’ women’s squad managed to get a bit of a bigger lead against defending champions Drury in the women’s team title race, boasting a 280-257.5 lead heading into day three. Wingate (173), Nova Southeastern (159) and UCSD (113) are the only other teams to clear 100 points.

Drury started the night on fire as Wen Xu (22.46), Vera Johansson (23.19), Katya Rudenko (22.75) and Janet Yu (22.17) surged to a 1:30.57 for the win.
That effort lowered Wayne State’s 2014 NCAA D2 record of 1:31.64, while Xu undercut Bryndis Hansen’s 50 free mark of 22.53 set last night in the individual 50-yard free.
Queens’ Lillian Gordy, Alexandra Marshall, Kristin Diemer and Shane Knight took second in 1:32.17 with Wingate’s Ana Fish, Rita Koryukova, Leigh-Ann Clark and Armony Dumur snagging third in 1:32.38.
Drury pulled ahead of Queens in the team race, 168-157.

Women’s 400 IM
It was definitely a back-and-forth battle between Nova Southeastern freshman Courtney Deveny and LIU Post senior Caroline Rademacher, with the pair both holding leads after each stroke.
But, after Rademacher flipped ahead of Deveny, 3:17.13 to 3:18.87, heading into the freestyle, Deveny threw down a 29.81, 27.95 set of splits compared to 30.55 and 30.38, to win 4:16.63 to 4:18.06.
Delta State’s Melanie Tombers rounded out the top three in 4:18.86.

Queens’ Nick Arakelian absolutely obliterated the NCAA D2 record in the men’s 400-yard IM with a time of 3:43.84.
Once Arakelian got through the butterfly leg, there was little doubt he was going to demolish the record as he blew the rest of the field out of the water.
The swim erased the 3:47.62 set by Wayne State’s Piotr Jachowicz back in 2013.
Cal Baptist’s Josh Hanson finished second overall tonight in 3:51.40 with West Chester’s Michael Oliver earning third in 3:51.97 in what proved to be a close fight for second.
Drury remained in the team-title lead with 132 points, while Lindenwood stood second with 130 points. Queens made a jump up the ladder to third with 124.5 points, while Grand Valley stood fourth with 111 points.
