Para World Championships: Four World Records Fall; Noah Jaffe Breaks American Mark

More records fell on the fourth day of the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships from Manchester, England.

The day saw four world records, an American record and an African record all fall.

Ukraine’s Danylo Chufarov broke the world record in the men’s 200 IM SM11 class, getting to the wall in 2:18.16.

The very next event, China’s Ma Jia broke the world record in the same event on the women’s side in 2:40.10.

Ukraine earned another world record when Anton Kol won the men’s 200 free S1 class in 4:57.31.

China also earned another world record when Guo Jincheng won the men’s 200 IM SM5 class Para world record in 2:46.55.

U.S. swimmer Noah Jaffe claimed gold in the men’s 100 free S8 class, breaking the American record to win in 59.15.

The meet started with a meet record by Talisson Glock in the men’s 400 freestyle S6 class. He finished in 4:52.42.

South Africa’s Kat Swanepoel won the women’s 50 backstroke S4 class gold medal in an African record time of 47.98.

Ukraine’s Denys Ostapchenko won the men’s 50 backstroke S3 gold in 45.95, while Great Britain’s Ellie Challis won the women’s race in 54.90 to earn gold.

Canada’s Danielle Dorris won gold in the women’s 100 backstroke S7, getting to the wall in 1:22.02.

Italy’s Simone Barlaam continued his strong meet with a gold-medal win in the men’s 100 free S9 class (52.28).

New Zealand’s Cameron Leslie won the men’s 50 backstroke S4 class in 42.67 to claim gold.

Germany’s Elena Krawzow broke the meet record in the women’s 100 breaststroke SB12. She won the race in 1:13.13.

Brazil’s Cecila Jeronimo de Araujo won the women’s 100 free S8 in 1:05.69.

Brazil’s Gabriel dos Santos Aruajo earned gold in the men’s 200 free S2 with a time of 4:01.51.

China’s Jiang Yuyan won the women’s 400 free S6 in 5:14.01. He Shenggao won gold in the women’s 200 IM SM5 in 3:20.76.

Azerbaijan’s Vali Israfilov won gold in the men’s 100 breaststroke SB12 class in 1:07.08.

Ukraine’s Andrii Trusov won the men’s 100 backstroke S7 gold in 1:08.37.

Thomas Van Wanrooij of the Netherlands won the men’s 100 backstroke S13 gold in 59.60.

Ireland’s Roisin Ni Riain won the women’s 100 backstroke S13 gold in 1:06.62.

Australia’s Alexa Leary won the women’s 100 free S9 in 1:00.24.

Ukraine broke the world record in the mixed 4×100 medley relay in 4:25.78.

Great Britain won the mixed 400 free relay in 3:42.42.
