Ben Proud Takes Down 50 Free British Record at Plymouth Regionals
PLYMOUTH, England, May 5. IT was a bit unexpected, but Ben Proud broke 22 seconds to set the British record in the men’s 50-meter free at the Plymouth Regionals today in Briatin.
Proud raced to a 21.86 at the ASA South West Youth and Senior Championships to undercut Adam Brown’s British record of 21.92. Proud previously had been knocking on the 21-second door with a personal best of 22.01. The performance jumped Proud to seventh in the world rankings with the top 11 now all under 22 seconds. Cesar Cielo (21.39) and Bruno Fratus (21.45) still own the top two times out of the Maria Lenk Trophy Meet from Brazil earlier this year.
Proud definitely showed the pride coming from his swim with a fun tweet, joking about how long that Regional record will stand.
Thought that was hiding somewhere… 21.86 50 free! Think that’ll be one regional record that’ll last a while 😉 finally a sub 22 swim!! 🙂
