Kenrick Monk Changes Story, Injuries From Falling Off Skateboard
BRISBANE, Australia, September 30. AFTER originally claiming that he was the victim of an intentional hit-and-run accident yesterday, Kenrick Monk has fessed up to lying to authorities and the Australian swimming community about the cause of his injuries.
News coming out of Australia today, including a statement from Swimming Australia, reports that Monk actually fell off a skateboard and fractured his elbow in two places.
"The entire matter is regrettable and we will be making no further comment until the full details of the incident are known," Swimming Australia CEO Kevin Neil said in a statement.
Monk, a member of Australia's roster at the 2008 Olympics, 2009 and 2011 World Championships and the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games, originally stated that he was knocked unconscious after a hit-and-run accident while riding his push bike. He also claimed that he was picked up and assisted to Wesley Hospital by teammates Ned McKendry, Nick D'Arcy and Stephanie Rice.
