Grant Ledge Swimming Coach Charged With Criminal Sexual Conduct
CHARLOTTE, Michigan, June 4. ACCORDING to MLive, Jason Algra, 32, a swim team coach and science teacher for Grant Ledge High School has been “charged with eight counts of criminal sexual conduct involving two students.”
Algra was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual conduct, and five counts of third-degree sexual conduct, and has had bail set at $250,000.
The Grant Ledge school system has already put Algra on administrative leave.
“As always, student safety and wellbeing are the district's highest priority,” Grant Ledge Public Schools said in a statement. “We will cooperate with the Prosecutor's office throughout the criminal proceedings. If appropriate, the district will begin the process to have the State of Michigan revoke the individual's teaching certification.”
USA Swimming, in response to a request from Swimming World, stated that it had no record of Algra as a member of the organization. This means that the organization does not have jurisdiction over Algra's case as it pertains to membership.
