NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MARKS BROKEN IN FLORIDA
Two national high school swimming records were broken at the Florida state 4A championships last weekend. Both were set by swimmers from the Bolles School.
Bolles’ girls’ 400 yard freestyle relay team stroked to a time of 3:24.08 in the prelims. The old national prep school record, 3:24.74, had been set by Germantown Academy in March 1987. Interestingly, the national public school mark was also set by a Florida school: Ft. Lauderdale’s 3:26.48 in 1982.
In the boys’ 200 yard individual medley, Bolles’ Alex Lopez sped to a 1:47.13 clocking. His time broke the national prep school mark set by Bolles’ Nuk Sirisanont in 1995 (1:47.40), but fell just short of the public school standard, 1:46.90 by Jason Lancaster of Carmel (Indiana) in 1994.
Florida state records were also set by Ginny Johnson (Bolles), girls’ 500 free, 4:43.37; Keam Ang (Bolles), boys’ 100 fly (48.28); Alex Lim (Bolles), boys’ 100 back (50.99); and Lopez, 100 free (44.77).
