Eric Shanteau Moving to Los Angeles to Train with Breaststroke Squad
PHOENIX, Arizona, January 13. OLYMPIAN Eric Shanteau is changing training sites in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Trials, moving from Austin, Texas, to Los Angeles and the Trojan Swim Club.
Shanteau's move was confirmed today to Swimming World by his manager, Evan Morgenstein, who added that Shanteau will move to Los Angeles in "the next 30 to 60 days." Shanteau will join a prestigious group of breaststrokers under Coach Dave Salo's watch, including Olympic champions Kosuke Kitajima and Rebecca Soni.
Shanteau moved to Austin shortly before the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials after finishing his eligibility at Auburn University and was rewarded with a spot on the Olympic team in the 200 breaststroke. Shortly before the Trials, Shanteau received his diagnosis of testicular cancer. As of today, Shanteau is cancer-free.
Shanteau had a fairly successful 2009 in the pool, setting American records in the 100 and 200 long course breaststrokes. He earned a silver medal in the 200 breast at the world championships and a gold as part of the 400 medley relay for the United States.
In 2010, Shanteau made the Pan Pacific team for the USA, placing third in the 200 breast.
Shanteau is competing this weekend at the Austin Grand Prix.
