USA SWIMMING NATIONAL TEAM DIRECTOR
USA Swimming is seeking to hire a National Team Director to provide leadership to the organization's National Team program with the goal of maintaining USA Swimming's position as the #1 ranked national swim team in the world.
The selected individual must be widely acknowledged as an accomplished professional, with a proven track record of high-level achievements in competitive international swimming. In addition to having extensive experience, technical knowledge and performance results, the selected individual must possess these personal qualities:
* Service-oriented and relationship-building philosophy.
* Team player.
* Strong moral character and unquestioned integrity.
* Positive attitude and proven ability to work collaboratively with athletes, coaches, staff, officials, event organizers, sponsors, volunteers, etc.
* Communication skills that are positive and effective in both inter-personal relationships, in meetings and in making presentations, etc.
* Appreciation and aptitude for administrative, program planning, budgeting, personnel management and other "dry-side" responsibilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
WORKS CLOSELY WITH: National Steering Committee
DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: National Team Managing Director, National Youth Team Head Coach, Open Water Head Coach (TBD), Performance Support Manager
ROLES & DUTIES:
Athlete & Coach Development
o Provide vision and leadership for America's top coaches and elite athletes, with the focus on performance success at the Olympic Games.
o Provide consistent leadership that ensures the perpetuation and continued growth of a National Team "culture" that has been historically characterized by the highest levels of personal accountability; medal-winning performance results; team spirit; and national pride.
o Develop and implement programs to help identify and mentor younger and less experienced coaches.
o Provide general oversight and philosophical direction to the National Youth Team program with the goal of maintaining a strong athlete pipeline for the National Team and fostering the "culture" that characterizes the National Team program.
o Assume a strong leadership and communication role with Athletes Executive Committee. Ensure that athlete concerns and opportunities are recognized and advocate as appropriate.
o Assume a strong and vocal leadership role in support of USA Swimming's doping control and education programs.
o Address disciplinary action in a firm and consistent manner.
High Performance Plan
o Direct the development and implementation of the National Team quadrennial High Performance Plan for both pool and open water swimming.
o Oversee the development and implementation of the National Team budget, working with other staff and volunteers as appropriate.
o Oversee logistical planning and provide team leadership for each year's most important international competition.
o Propose, secure necessary approvals and oversee the implementation of all selection procedures for athletes, coaches and support staff for all international competitions.
o Provide reports to USA Swimming, U.S. Olympic Committee and others as required.
International Relations
o Accompany the President and Executive Director in all meetings involving the Pan Pacific Charter Nations.
o Attend all meetings of the International Relations Committee and participate in USA Swimming's I.R. strategic planning and initiatives.
General
o Work collaboratively and communicate regularly with the National Steering Committee on all appropriate aspects of the National Team program.
o Work collaboratively with other Division Directors as a member of the senior staff team to creatively develop and achieve USA Swimming's strategic plan and key objectives.
o Participate in senior staff meetings and lead the National Team's efforts in the annual budget development process.
o Work in collaboration with Executive Director and others to effectively represent and lobby for the needs of the National Team program with domestic and international organizations.
o Perform duties, serve on task groups and take on special assignments as requested by the Executive Director.
Personnel Management
o Oversee, manage and mentor the National Team staff.
o Ensure personal and National Team staff compliance with all organizational policies.
LOCATION: The National Team Director will be required to live in Colorado Springs and will be based at the USA Swimming national headquarters.
