European Championships: Germany Wins New Team Event
BUDAPEST, Hungary, August 9. THIS year, the sport of diving introduced a co-gender team event that has been used at various international meets throughout the world. The European Championships led off diving competition with the team event.
Germany's Christin Steuer and Sascha Klein won the gold medal with a combined tally of 398.15 points. The team moved into the second position and used a strong last round dive of 82.80 points to secure the victory in the sixth-and-final round.
Russia's Yulia Koltunova and Ilya Zakharov finished second with 396.35 points after sitting in third most of the evening. The duo posted the top final round dive with an 83.25, but did not have enough to beat Germany.
France's Claire Febvay and Matthieu Rosset led nearly the entire evening, but finished third with 381.00 points after a bad final round dive of 64.00.
