Flash! North Florida Reinstates Women’s Swimming and Diving Just Weeks After Cut
JACKSONVILLE, Florida, April 9. THE University of North Florida Department of Athletics announces the reinstatement of the women's swimming and diving program after a careful reevaluation. UNF announced in March that it would be discontinuing the program.
When the University of North Florida first made the decision to discontinue UNF's swimming and diving program, it was satisfied that this action would not impact the proportionate balance between female and male student-athletes. Upon further review, however, the university has learned that discontinuing the program could call into question UNF's commitment to gender equity.
As the University of North Florida reopens the program, it remains committed to providing a quality experience for the members of the women's swimming and diving team, as well as all of UNF's student-athletes.
With the reinstatement of women's swimming and diving, UNF sponsors 17 intercollegiate sports. Women's sports include basketball cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field and volleyball which all compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The women's swimming and diving team is a member of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field.
