COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 27. PURDUE's David Boudia set himself up to do what no other male diver has done in the history the NCAA Division I Championships since the inclusion of platform diving as a scoring event in 1990 – a diving sweep.
Boudia, who won the one-meter last night, tallied a meet-record 494.90 points tonight on the three-meter. That total beat his previous mark of 493.10 set in 2009. Duke's Nick McCrory finished second with 459.15 points, while Texas A&M's Grant Nel tallied 450.50 points for third.
The win is Boudia's second in a row. He became the first diver since Arizona State's Joona Puhakka (2004-05) to repeat. He is also the first diver to sweep both springboard events since Chris Colwill did so in 2006.
California enjoyed a quiet diving night from Texas to remain in the lead with 334.5 points. Texas scored just a point in the three meter with a 16th-place 371.35 from Matt Cooper. The Longhorns stood second with 290 points. Arizona (237), Florida (230) and Auburn (207.5) rounded out the top five.
