WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, March 19. STANFORD went back-to-back with a win in the 100 fly after Julia Smit conquered the 400 IM. Teammate Elaine Breeden lowered the pool record en route to victory.

Breeden clocked a 51.43, lowering Rachel Komisarz's pool record of 51.44 set in 2007. The win broke a tie between California and Stanford for most victories in the history of the event. Going into this meet, both teams had won the race eight times. Breeden joins the likes of Jenna Johnson (1986), Janel Jorgensen (1990, 1993), Jenny Thompson (1994-95) and Misty Hyman (1998-99) as members of the Cardinal to emerge triumphant from the 100 fly.

"Stanford started off really strong as a team and after watching Julia win her race I just knew that it was my time and I needed to follow her lead," Breeden said. "Rachel Komisarz and I go way back and we have been racing all of the time so to get her pool record is really an honor because she is an outstanding swimmer. It was a lot of fun."

Southern California's Lyndsay DePaul continued a strong meet for the Trojans with a second-place time of 51.72, while defending champion Amanda Sims of California settled for third. Western Kentucky's Claire Donahue finished a surprising fourth with a 52.01 to show some mid-major power.

Stanford remained in first with 221.5 points, while California held second with 204 points. Arizona (165.5), Georgia (162.5) and Florida (160) rounded out the top five.
