WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, March 18. HOUSTON's Anastasia Pozdniakova became the third student-athlete to defend a title this evening alone as she dueled Minnesota's Kelci Bryant in the one-meter diving break.
Pozdniakova won with 356.20 points to break Bryant's facility record of 348.20 set at the 2010 Big Ten Championships. She won last year with 351.15 points. The win is Houston's fourth in the event all time tying it with Florida and SMU for the most one-meter diving titles by a single school. Yulia Pakhalina previously won for Houston in 2001 and 2003.
"It's a relief for sure (to win)," Pozdniakova said. "It was really close, but it's a great feeling to win it again."
Bryant took second with 352.65 points, while Texas A&M's Jaele Patrick completed the top three with 340.60 points.
Georgia pushed its leading tally to 112 in the team race with three points from Hannah Moore. Stanford gained zero points in diving and remained second with 108.5 points. California (98), Texas A&M (76) and Florida (75) were among the top five.
