LONG BEACH, California, February 25. TONIGHT at the Pacific 10 Championships held in Long Beach, Calif., Stanford's Julia Smit lowered her American and NCAA records in the women's 200-yard IM.
Smit, who is Swimming World's featured cover personality in the March issue coming out next week, posted a sterling time of 1:52.31 to win the event going away at the conference championships.
Smit held the previous American and NCAA record with a 1:52.79 set at the 2009 NCAA Championships held in College Station. Incidentally, she also beat her Pacific 10 Championships standard of 1:53.11 set last year.
