SwimmingWorld.TV On-Demand Footage of Finals, Interviews

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma, December 17. DURING the first night of short course yard swimming, Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton lowered a meet and pool record in the women's 1000-yard free at the Chesapeake Elite Pro Am. She also officially became a professional swimmer with her first cash prize.

The only individual events of the night happened at the 1000-yard distance. Sutton smashed the meet and pool record in the women's 1000 free with a 9:26.58. The effort cut nearly two seconds off Rachel Komisarz' 2004 mark of 9:28.35, and cut around five seconds off Sutton's previous personal best. Ohio State's Griet Buelens (9:53.32) and Natalie Nichols (10:05.23) placed second and third.

Sutton also made some news tonight by officially announcing that she's turning pro, and bypassing her NCAA eligibility. She did so during an interview with SwimmingWorld.TV's Garrett McCaffrey.

Here's the SwimmingWorld.TV interview:

Robert Margalis won the men's 1000 free in 9:05.31, while Mission Viejo's Jan Daniec placed second in 9:09.44. Teammate Charles Cullom claimed third in 9:17.61.

In relay action, the OSU Swimming team of Kelsey Moran, Catherine Eitel, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro won the women's 200 medley relay going away with a top time of 1:43.71. The time cleared the meet record of 1:45.09 set by FAST in 2002, and nearly beat the pool record of 1:43.02 set by Nebraska back in 1999.

Schroeder's Mitchell Friedemann, Christopher Meyers, Adam Mania and Carl Newenhouse clinched the men's 200 medley relay title in 1:33.05. Meanwhile, OSU's Anita Beck, Sam Cheverton, Angela Severn and Haley Mitchell won the women's 800 free relay in 7:20.64. Mission Viejo's Daniec, Spencer Wollkind, Jon Norman and Cullom completed the night with a 6:47.29 to win the men's 800 free relay.
