East Asian Games: Ryosuke Irie, Chen Huijia Shine On Third Night
HONG KONG, December 8. THE third night of long course meter swimming at the East Asian Games featured some more exciting action.
China's Liu Jing topped the women's 200 free in 1:59.55, missing Pang Jiaying's meet record of 1:58.49 set in 2005. Japan's Misaki Yamaguchi took second in 2:00.70, while Hong Kong's Hoi Shun Au placed third in 2:01.67.
Japan's Ryosuke Irie cleared Ouyang Kunpeng's meet record of 25.18 in the men's 50 back with a winning time of 25.07. He finished just a second back of Liam Tancock's world record time of 24.04 in the event. China's Cheng Feiyi took second in 25.62, while Korea's Doohee Jeong finished third in 26.10.
China's went 1-2 in the women's 100 fly as Jiao Liuyang won in 57.28. She beat Zhou Yafei's meet record of 58.43 set in 2005. Guo Fan took second in 57.88, while Hong Kong's Hannah Wilson completed the podium with a third-place 58.85.
Japan's Yuya Horihata snatched the meet record in the men's 400 IM with a 4:14.89. He eclipsed the 4:18.88 set by Tabuchi Susumu in 2001. Korea's Mingyu Kim touched second in 4:15.27, while Japan's Yosuke Mori wound up third in 4:15.54.
China's Chen Huijia crushed the field and the meet record in the women's 100 breast with a 1:05.64. Her performance smashed the 1:07.42 set by Luo Xuejuan back in 2001. China's Wang Randi took second in 1:07.30, while Japan's Satomi Suzuki finished third in 1:07.98.
Japan's Ryo Tateishi shattered the meet record in the men's 200 breast with a winning time of 2:09.59. His readout far surpassed the 2:13.20 set by Kosuke Kitajima in 2001. Teammate Ryohsuke Shimada took second in 2:11.81, while Korea's Kyu Woong Choi rounded out the top three in 2:11.87.
Japan's Matsumi Iwashita won the women's 1500 free in 16:36.84, beating out just two other competitors. Hong Kong's Wing Yung Tang took second in 16:53.36, while Hong Kong's Carmen Nam completed the field with a third-place 17:36.88.
Japan's Takuro Fujii, Yoshihiro Okumura, Hiroaki Yamamoto and Sho Uchida closed out the day with a winning time of 3:14.73 in the men's 400 free relay.
