Spanish Short Course Championships: Erika Villaecija Garcia Downs European Record
CASTELLON, Spain, November 26. ERIKA Villaecija Garcia gave the Spanish Short Course Championships a European record on the first day of action in Castellon.
Villaecija Garcia lowered the European record in the women's 1500 free with a time of 15:37.78. That performance beat Laure Manaudou's continental mark of 15:42.39 set back in 2004 for France. She also crushed her national record of 15:53.98 set last December.
Mireia Belmonte Garcia set a national record in the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:03.01. That effort beat her preliminary record of 2:06.63, which cleared her previous record of 2:07.20 set in April.
Maria Pelaez Navarrete clipped Belmonte Garcia's national record in the women's 100 IM with a 1:01.02. That swim eclipsed Belmonte Garcia's time of 1:01.06 set last year. Alan Cabello Forns took home the men's 100 IM national record with a time of 52.65. That readout wiped out the 52.83 set by Aschwin Wildeboer Faber back in April.
Carlos Lenador Rivas captured the men's 200 fly in 1:55.49, while Mercedes Peris Minguet earned the women's 100 back title in 58.61. The men's 100 back crown went to Aschwin Wildeboer Faber with a 49.74, while David Cromwell placed second in 51.02. Maria Fuster Martinez topped the women's 100 free in 53.69. Marco Rivera Miranda finished first in the men's 400 free with a 3:43.56.
