FINA World Championships, Swimming: Cate Campbell Keeps Trucking, Grabs Meet Record in Semis of the 50 Free

ROME, Italy, August 1. AUSTRALIA's Cate Campbell kept rolling in the women's 50 free of the FINA World Championships as she claimed the meet record during semis.

Campbell clocked a swift time of 24.08, the fifth-fastest time ever, to lower her prelims meet record of 24.24.

World record holder Marleen Veldhuis of The Netherlands placed second overall with a 24.20. Her effort came just a bit short of her global mark of 23.96 set in April.

Germany's Britta Steffen finished third in semis with a 24.28, while Amanda Weir of the U.S. qualified fourth in 24.31.

Sweden's Therese Alshammar (24.32), Australia's Libby Trickett (24.34), Great Britain's Fran Halsall (24.42) and the United States' Dara Torres (24.43) rounded out the championship field.
