ROME, Italy, July 31. GREAT Britain demonstrated its dominance in the women's 800 free qualifying round with a 1-2 finish at the FINA World Championships.
World record holder Rebecca Adlington led the way with an 8:20.53 in heat five, while teammate Joanne Jackson placed second in 8:20.80 from heat three to setup an intra-country showdown in finals.
Romania's Camelia Potec qualified third in 8:22.03, while Italy's Alessia Filippi took fourth overall in 8:24.03.
Denmark's Lotte Friis turned in a fifth-place 8:25.72, while Spain's Erika Villaecija qualified sixth in 8:26.58. South Africa's Wendy Trott placed seventh in 8:27.26.
Chile's Kristel Kobrich Schimpl and France's Ophelie-Cyrielle Etienne set up an unkind swimoff for eighth place with matching times of 8:27.90.
