FINA World Championships, Swimming: Flash! Cameron van der Burgh Sets World Record in 50 Breast Win

ROME, Italy, July 29. IN an incredibly fast finale, South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh claimed the world record in the men's 50 breast at the FINA World Championships.
van der Burgh topped the world record with a 26.67, lowering the 26.74 he set in earlier heats.
Brazil's Felipe Silva placed second for silver in 26.76, downing his top time of 26.89. Mark Gangloff of the United States rounded out the podium with a bronze-winning time of 26.86. That swim beat Kevin Swander's American record of 27.14.
Germany's Hendrik Feldwehr and Australia's Brenton Rickard both missed the podium with sub-27s as they tied for fourth with matching 26.95s.
Slovenia's Matjaz Markic (27.10), Slovenia's Emil Tahirovic (27.31) and Brazil's Joao Gomes Jr. (27.31) completed the final heat.
