ROME, Italy, July 29. GERMANY's Daniela Samulski lowered her world record in the women's 50 back during semis at the FINA World Championships. However, Russia's Anastasia Zueva came over the top in the second semifinal.
Samulski clocked a time of 27.39 to break her global mark of 27.61. She also cleared the three fastest times in the world this year set by Zueva. Zueva had a 27.47 and 27.48 eliminated from the world record books due to swimming in an unapproved suit. Also, her 27.56 from the Mare Nostrum series was not accompanied by a drug test.
Zueva, however, used Worlds to finally put her name in the global record books with a 27.38 to lead semifinal qualifying.
Australia's Sophie Edington (27.51), Belarus' Aleksandra Gerasimenya (27.57), China's Zhao Jing (27.59), China's Gao Chang (27.66), Australia's Emily Seebohm (27.70) and Brazil's Fabiola Molina (27.70) completed the rest of the championship field.
