YMCA Long Course Championships: Emily Lloyd Sets YMCA Record in 50 Free
COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, July 28. THE first full night of action at the YMCA Long Course National Championships featured a pair of YMCA records falling by the wayside.
Anne Arundel's Emily Lloyd lowered her YMCA record in the women's 50 free with a 25.74. The performance cleared her 26.25 set last year. Stevens Point's Becca Weiland placed second in 26.61 with South Family's Natalie Rohr, 15, taking third in 27.15. Bath Area's James Wells snagged the men's 50 free in 24.11. Northwest's Brendan Murphy touched just behind with a second-place 24.12, while B R Ryall's Nick Iwanicki finished third in 24.19.
Cheshire's Lauren Solernou claimed the women's 100 back in 1:03.12, while Wilton's Shelby Fortin finished second in 1:04.05. Oshkosh's Siri Smits, 15, wound up third in 1:04.46. Rappahannock's Josh Friedel won the men's 100 back in 57.04. Bath Area's James Wells touched second in 57.13, while Countryside's Steven Zimmerman placed third in 57.60.
Middle Tyger's Laura Simon touched out teammate Haley Lips, 15, 4:20.13 to 4:20.22, in the women's 400 free. Winston-Salem's Kelly Ann Baird captured third in 4:21.32. South Family's Ty Perkins took home the men's 400 free in 4:05.04. Teammate Daniel Schmitz turned in a second-place 4:06.73, while Rappahannock's Mike Camper snared third in 4:07.40.
Cheshire's Kim Jerome placed first in the women's 50 breast in 33.44. Upper Main Line's Emily Schon finished second in 33.86 with W. North Carolina's Emily Marett taking third in 34.15. Red Bank's Harrison Cefalo touched out Somerset Valley's Sean Johnson, 29.61 to 29.65, in the men's 50 breast. Middle Tyger's Graham Kauffman finished third in 29.95.
Middle Tyger's Addie Carne claimed the women's 200 IM in 2:21.85. W. North Carolina's Victoria Oslund took second in 2:23.30 with Wilton's K.C. Moss, 14, rounding out the top three in 2:23.55. Upper Main Line's Matthew Salig topped the men's 200 IM in 2:05.53. W. North Carolina's Nathan Hart finished second in 2:06.39, while Montclair's Matt Navata touched third in 2:08.79.
The 200 medley relays completed the night. Anne Arundel's Caroline Burns, Kelsey Rouse, Sarah Lloyd and Lloyd won the women's event in 1:59.45 to eclipse the meet record of 1:59.83 set by Cheshire in 2008. Upper Main Line's Thomas Mershon, Andrew Seiler, Salig and Nathan Reed topped the men's race in 1:47.50.
