FINA World Championships, Swimming: Flash! Cameron van der Burgh Locks Down 50 Breast World Record in Semis

ROME, Italy, July 28. THE third straight world record went down this evening during the men's 50 breast semifinals at the FINA World Championships.

South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh turned in a 26.74 to break Felipe Silva's world record of 26.89 set in May. Germany's Hendrik Feldwehr wound up qualifying second in 26.83 to join van der Burgh and Silva in the 26-second club, while Silva qualified third in 26.92.

Australia's Brenton Rickard placed fourth overall in 27.13, while Brazil's Joao Gomes Jr. (27.16) and Slovenia's Matjaz Markic (27.16) tied for fifth.

Slovenia's Emil Tahirovic (27.19) and the United States' Mark Gangloff (27.24) also earned spots in the finale.
