FINA World Championships, Water Polo: Men’s Classification Rounds Begin

ROME, Italy, July 26. THE eighth day of water polo competition at the FINA World Championships featured the initial round of men's classification and quarterfinal matchups.
In the quarterfinals, Canada bested China, 9-5. Aaron Feltham completed a hat trick as Canada went 9-for-28. Yu Lijun and Wang Beiming accounted for two goals each for China, which went 5-for-25.
Germany followed by clipping Montenegro, 9-8. Marko Savic totaled three goals for Germany, which went 9-for-28. Mladjan Janovic and Boris Zlokovic notched two goals each for Montenegro, which went 8-for-29.
Next, Romania beat Australia, 7-5. Cosmin Alexandru Radu and Nicolae Virgil Diaconu each posted two goals for Romania, which went 7-for-25. Richard Campbell and Thomas Whalan also had two goals each for Australia, which converted 5 of 32 shots.
Serbia downed host Italy, 7-5, in the final match of the night. Vanja Udovicic led the way with two goals as Serbia went 7-for-28. Alessandro Calcaterra notched three goals for Italy, which went 5-for-26.
In the 13th-16th place semifinals, Brazil edged South Africa, 8-7. Felipe Silva and Felipe Franco each tallied two goals for Brazil, which went 8-for-24. Etienne le Roux and Ryan Bell led South Africa with two goals each as well. South Africa went 7-for-26.
In the other 13th-16th place semifinal, Macedonia downed Kazakhstan, 11-4. Nebojsa Milic tallied four goals for the winning squad, as it went 11-for-27. Vladislav Andreyev accounted for half of Kazakhstan's goals, which went 4-for-24.
