FINA World Championships, Open Water: Mother of All Marathoners, Angela Maurer Wins 25K

ROME, Italy, July 25. THE women who competed in 25K race at the FINA World Championships, starting only 10 minutes after the men, showed the tenacity and strength possessed by few.
After nearly six hours of up-and-down racing, nearly every place came down to a closing sprint with the only mother in the race, Angela Maurer, winning in a down-to-the-wire finish with Anna Uvarova of Russia. Maurer, fourth place in the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim, came out on top in 5 hours and 47 minutes.
