Maccabiah Games: Andrea Murez Doubles; Jason Lezak Completes Ambassador Tour
RAMAT GAN, Israel, July 22. THE final session of long course meter swimming came to a close at the Maccabiah Games held in Israel with Andrea Murez of the U.S. doubling and Jason Lezak nearly clearing the 22-second barrier in the men's 50 free.
Murez first claimed the women's 200 IM title in 2:20.74, while Efrat Rotsztein finished second in 2:23.05 for Israel. Israel's Dekel Shahaff touched third in 2:23.12.
Murez doubled up with a 26.44 in the women's 50 free for the win. Teammate Naomi Javanifard took second in 26.85, while Israel's Keren Michaela Siebner finished third in 26.90.
U.S. Olympic hero Lezak completed his ambassadorship to the Games with an easy 22.19 for the men's 50 win. Israel's Vitali Pushkar touched second in 23.35 with Andrew Langenfeld of the U.S. finishing third in 23.36.
Israel's Nimrod Hayet cruised in the men's 200 IM with a 2:03.39, while Shaun Weinberg of the U.S. placed second in 2:06.63. Yaniv Yaakov Shnaider wound up third for Israel in 2:08.08.
The U.S. went 1-2 in the women's 800 free. Haley Mitchell won in 9:02.02, while Rachel Kessler claimed second in 9:14.37. Gal Pour of Israel earned third in 9:16.78.
Scott Korotkin of the U.S. captured the men's 1500 free crown in 15:32.51. Amir Arbel of Israel finished second in 16:25.96 with Max Ettore of the U.S. completing the top three in 16:27.78.
In 400 medley relay action, Israel's women's team won in 4:17.60, while the U.S. men's team touched first in 3:43.07. Splits are not being reported on the official results page.
