Jason Lezak Speaks Out About “Ridiculous” Suits
IRVINE, California, April 27 IN a article posted today on ocregister.com by Dan Albano, Jason Lezak, hero of the 4×100 USA Olympic gold medal free relay was quoted as saying, "Guys going 20.9 in the 50 freestyle … is absolutely ridiculous," Lezak said after winning the 100 free in 48.64 seconds at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
"(Alexander) Popov's record of 21.64 had stood for eight years (until 2008) and now all of a sudden, you're seven-tenths faster. It doesn't make sense. It's not right for our sport. There should be evolution in sports but not that big, that quick," Lezak added.
Bousquet wore the Italian-manufactured suit Jaked. The suit is reportedly covered with polyurethane to aid buoyancy. Lezak ordered one and tried it on Thursday but it ripped. The Irvine resident still experienced the difference the suit can make.
Lezak commented that, "Even with a huge rip in the back, I dove in the water and the first thing I thought in my head was this suit should not be legal."
