British Long Course Championships: Ellen Gandy Charts European Record
SHEFFIELD, England, March 19. ELLEN Gandy put together a European-record time in the women's 200 fly at the British Long Course Championships.
Gandy raced to a strong time of 2:04.83 that crushed the previous standard of 2:05.61 set by Poland's Otylia Jedrzejczak. The effort also smashed Jemma Lowe's British record of 2:06.64. Hannah Miley finished second in 2:08.24, while Jessica Dickons took third in 2:10.21
Chris Walker-Hebborn followed with a time of 1:57.95 in the men's 200 back, while James Goddard took second in 1:58.34. Marco Loughran finished third in 1:58.58.
Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington cruised to victory in the women's 800 free with a time of 8:18.86. Jazmin Carlin (8:30.12) and Kerianne Payne (8:35.03) rounded out the top three.
In a night with much semifinal action, Liam Tancock topped the men's 100 free in 48.76, while Fran Halsall clocked the best time in the women's 100 free with a 54.97. Kristopher Gilchrist posted a 2:10.74 to pace the men's 200 breast, while Georgia Davies went 2:11.87 in the women's 200 back. Michael Rock clocked a 52.45 in the men's 100 fly, while Miley closed the night with a 2:29.64 to lead the women's 200 breast.
