SYDNEY, Australia, March 18. SWEDEN's Therese Alshammar is not letting go of her disqualified world-record time of 25.44 in the women's 50 fly without at least taking some digs.
In an interview with Channel 10 in Australia, which was quoted by most of the Australian media (The Sydney Morning Herald's article is found below), Alshammar claimed that the one-suit rule is sexist.
"It's a little bit of a controversy but I think it's good to make the rules clear now and everyone, including myself, understands now fully," Alshammar told Channel 10. "I thought a modesty suit would be a modesty suit. I would almost claim that's a bit sexist saying that the men can cover their private parts up with briefs and women can only also wear briefs. I would totally – even though I'm Swedish – understand that a modesty suit would be to cover your modest parts. I guess you can't even wear a modesty suit any more."
Prior to The Dubai Charter being implemented by FINA over the weekend, Australia had allowances for a modesty suit underneath a technical suit.
