Swedish Grand Prix, Malmo: Three Double During First Day of Finals
MALMO, Sweden, February 7. DURING the first day of long course meter finals at the Swedish Grand Prix held in Malmo, three swimmers claimed a pair of event titles.
For the women, Sarah Sjostrom hit the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.59. She returned later in the session to capture the 100 free with the only sub-1:00 time of the heat in 59.46.
Also in the women's ranks, Eleonor Lindborg walked away with the 50 back title in 31.08 and also won the 200 back in 2:22.30, just touching out Martina Granstrom (2:22.41).
Simon Sjodin was the only man to double with triumphs in the 200 free (2:00.48) and 50 free (24.86).
Radovan Siljevski opened the session with a touch out victory over Mattias Carlsson, 51.81 to 51.87, in the men's 100 free, while Martin Gustafsson took home the men's 50 breast in 29.32.
Meanwhile, Hanna Westrin stopped the clock in 1:11.22 in the women's 100 breast with Jesper Svensson taking the men's 400 IM in 4:45.05.
In the men's 100 back, Carlsson turned his 100 free silver into gold with a 59.98, while Stina Gardell snagged the women's 200 IM crown with a 2:18.21.
Gabriel Bertrand earned a close victory over Goran Eriksson, 4:14.24 to 4:14.78 in the men's 400 free, while Josefin Lillhage clocked a tune-up time of 26.17 in the women's 50 free.
Anton Lagerqvist touched out Gustafsson by .02, 2:17.64 to 2:17.66, to earn the men's 200 breast title, while Linnea Bielicz snatched the women's 800 free in 9:26.97.
