Bulldogs Lead at Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, GA., Dec. 1. THE top-ranked Lady Bulldogs tallied 406 points on Friday evening to claim an impressive lead over second-place Florida State (221) and third-place Clemson (220) while the 14th-ranked Bulldogs finished the night with 302 points, beating out second-place Minnesota (279) and third-place Florida State (227).

Florida State started the night with first place finishes in the men's and women's 200 yard freestyle relay, but the Georgia teams dominated the rest of
the night. When the night was done, Georgia tallied 6 first-place finishes, 5 NCAA provisional times, and forty-five session-best times in 10 events.

"We did a great job tonight, a lot better than this morning," said Georgia head swim coach Jack Bauerle.
"We have some great season bests for it to be this early in the season."

The Lady Bulldogs placed six swimmers in the top eight of the women's 500 yard freestyle. Maritza Correia, Julie Hardt, and Kim Black finished first, second, and third, respectively, all posting season-best times and NCAA provisional marks. Rebecca Rose, Nicole Schrader, and Debbie James also posted season-best times and finished in the top 8.

In the women's 50 yard freestyle Lady Bulldog Stefanie Williams swam a NCAA provisional 23.02, but finished second to Christy Cech of Florida State. Cech's 22.64 was a NCAA automatic time.

Georgia freshman Randy Lam finished first in the men's 200 yard individual medley, posting a season-best time as well as a NCAA provisional. Kyle Salyards, Chris Read, Brent McAuliffe, and Chris Maurer also finished in the top 8 while posting season-best times.

Dan Croaston of Minnesota won the men's 1 meter diving with a final score of 362.65. Georgia's Jud Campbell and Chris Daugherty finished second and third,
respectively. Georgia freshman Lauren King scored a 543.75 and finished first in the women's 3 meter diving competition.

Georgia finished first in the final two events of the night, the men's and women's 400 yard medley relay. Marc Lindsay, Kyle Salyards, Parker Shade, and Chris Murray swam a NCAA provisional 3:16.89, finishing ahead of Minnesota(3:18.29), and Florida State (3:19.63). On the women's side, Christine Keller, Ashley Roby, Keegan Walkley, and Stefanie Williams swam a season-best 3:43.71, finishing ahead of Florida State (3:45.00) and a second Georgia team of Neka Mabry, Jamie Skinner, Stephanie Buck, and Katie Permenter (3:49.87).

Competition continues at the Georgia Invitational through the weekend with events on Saturday and Sunday. Prelims for Saturday begin at 10:30 a.m. and
finals begin at 6:00 p.m.; start times for Sunday are 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
