Olympics, Diving: China Dominates Women’s Synchro Three-Meter Event

BEIJING, China, August 10. THERE is one sport at the 2008 Olympics in which the host has a decided advantage, and that is diving.
The tandem of Guo Jingjing and Wu Minxia did not let down its country in the opening day of diving competition as the Chinese posted a top tally of 343.50 points for gold in the women's synchronized three-meter event.
Russia's duo of Julia Pakhalina and Anastasia Pozdnyakova finished 19.89 points behind with a silver-medal effort of 323.61, while Germany's Ditte Kotzian and Heike Fischer edged the U.S. squad for bronze with 318.90 points.
Kelci Bryant and Ariel Rittenhouse came up just short of the medals as the American pair recorded 314.40 points for fourth place.
